I had the privilege this past week to sit down and listen to the Mayer of Avondale, Arizona, Kenn Weise about a lot of the cool things they are working on and have in store very soon. This blog post will highlight a few and share some details on upcoming projects.
First off, Avondale is a city in the Southwestern part of Metro Phoenix. It’s to the East of Goodyear and is split by the I-10 freeway.
The city’s leadership has put an emphasis on quality of life… this is shown by their spending millions of dollars on improving existing and building new parks. One of these is Festival Fields Park, which offers field space for youth sports, but also a splash pad, new playground equipment, skate park, sand volleyball, dog park and much more. This has taken some burden off of well known Friendship Park to make both more user friendly.
To conserve energy moving forward, the city has changed out roughly 8,000 street lights with LED versions.
The corridor along McDowell, North of I-10 is turning into a “Health-Tech Corridor” with lots of new telemedicine options. Apparently that’s believed to be the wave of the future.
One of the projects they are really excited about is called Lakin Ranch and this is a master-planned residential community with various builders in the Southern part of the city. The developer, Brookfield Residential, is also whom created Eastmark, the popular community in Mesa. There could be up to 3,695 residences with townhomes & condos as well. There will be many hiking trails, a regional 30-acre park and elementary school site contained within. I hear this will open up in early 2020.
